Self Mustering Yards

Self Mustering Yards

Jack Carmody

Since purchasing Prenti Downs in 2015, we have introduced self-mustering yards across the entire property.

This method has allowed us to have very good management over the water resources, this has given us the opportunity to reduce the Total Grazing Pressure on the Rangeland through the removal of feral animal species.

The Self mustering yards in use at Prenti Downs have been designed to control the species of animals that can utilize the water resource, which has lead to a reduction in the grazing pressure on the fragile environment.

This has allowed the rangelands condition to improve, and begin to move in a forward direction, despite a long dry period.

Cattle are a water dependent animal, and as such we are able to manage which animals we keep in our system, improving our genetics, and the handling characteristics of our breeding herd.
